Launching a new community site soon!

I have been pleased with the use that this site has seen as a test project.  I know that we have been slow to update the site from time to time, but we've been working hard on sorting out ways to improve on the ways that the site can be used.  Very soon, we'll be launching a new version of psych:communities.

Some improvements in the new site:

  • Integrated login.  With the new site, users will be able to use their APA Member's Corner username and password, so you won't have to keep track of separate credentials for the community.
  • Integrated group membership.  The new site will use the concept of "groups" to separate different content areas based on the roles each member plays within the organization. These roles will be updated regularly to ensure that members have automatic access to the areas they need.
  • Integrated profile data.  When a user logs into the site, their displayed name will be pulled from the association management system so they won't have to update their profile.

The site will be available to all members on launch, so we hope to see more activity.  Our aim is to replace many of the Majordomo listserves with the community site, so we'll be using it as a vehicle to enable correspondence between committee members.
